This is the best-known and best-tolerated eucalyptus. It is the one you think of without knowing it when you are in a sauna or steam room. Indeed, it is quite often found in these places, where its freshness and pleasant scent are always welcome.

Narrow-leaved peppermint eucalyptus is primarily an essential oil that clears the respiratory tract and purifies the air. It contains 1,8-cineole, an aromatic molecule known for its expectorant properties. The advantage of narrow-leaved peppermint eucalyptus, however, is that it is well-tolerated and generally does not cause spasms when inhaled.

Also very well-tolerated when diluted for skin application, narrow-leaved peppermint eucalyptus can be used in respiratory balm formulas for children if properly dosed. Many mothers massage it into the soles of their children's feet in winter, using an oil or cream. Note that the Australian Aborigines use fresh leaves of the narrow-leaved peppermint eucalyptus to dress their wounds.
