What is a hydrosol?

A true aromatic hydrosol contains the active properties of pure plant essences, suspended in _H2O , by steam distillation. Hydrosols provide botanical hydration and toning with healing properties for the face, skin, and hair.

THE Pranarom hydrosols are micro-filtered and UV-filtered for extended shelf life. Due to their delicate nature, please store them in a cool, dry place. Hydrosols should not be refrigerated. They prefer a cool, stable environment, and temperature fluctuations are disruptive. If you refrigerate yours or if they are exposed to extreme temperatures, bring your hydrosols to room temperature gradually and gently.

Hydrosols are the byproduct of water collected during the distillation of essential oils. Each essential oil creates a hydrosol. It's a myth that hydrosols are a compound of water mixed with essential oils; they have different properties than their essential oil counterparts.

THE lavender flowers used by Pranarom are grown in Northern California in certified organic soil. The flowers are harvested at maturity and immediately introduced into the distillation chamber (a large sieve) which will be filled with several pounds of lavender. The distillation process is a delicate one and involves forcing water vapor through a vat filled with aromatic plants. Powered by low pressure, the water vapor rises through the herbs, infusing it with the lavender, and is channeled outward by cooling coils. As the vapor condenses and cools, the essential oil separates and floats on the surface of the water, leaving us with organic lavender hydrosol and essential oil. The hydrosol is then collected, UV-filtered, and ready to use.

Hydrosols naturally hydrate, tone, and refresh the skin. They are often used in facial lotions to tone, balance, and refresh skin on hot days or during hot flashes; especially if they have been stored in the refrigerator! You can also use them to condition your hair. Hydrosols are extremely gentle, making them safe for pregnant women, children, and pets.

A hydrosol is an excellent base for making your own spray blends for: bedroom, bathroom, car, laundry water, yoga mat cleaner, sunscreen, aftershave lotion, insect repellent and the list goes on.
